The hills are alive…with hazardous litter

Litter in Muscat takes on many shapes and shades. From mindlessly throwing trash at public places to dumping garbage and household furniture around trash bins in the city, people indulge in littering of varied kinds everyday. But  littering is not just limited to residential and commercial areas; there are those who drive far away into the hills and leave behind litter of a very differ-ent kind.

An Apex lensman tracked down a clearing in the hills at Wadi Kabir where he noticed stuff like discarded oil and oil filters, which are used in automobiles, as well as other such industrial waste dumped in the open. Apart from being hazardous to human beings, such waste is also harmful to the environment.

Dumping ground

People have been using this space in Mumtaz area, near Al Burj International Hotel for dumping construction waste. Several reminders have been given to the concern ward officer of Muscat Municipality but no action has been taken.
